My sister, Liana, and her husband, Collin, were heading to Oahu for an orthodontic convention and we sort of invited ourselves along (first talked about last July!). I am oh so glad we did. When we first arrived we were extraordinarily loopy due to being so excited and tired. At dinner that night Liana got a big ol' salad that had big ol' slices of cucumbers on it, so of course the boys (ahem, Scott) dared us to fit the whole thing in our mouths, our attempts at this caused us to have obnoxious giggle fits for far longer than would be normal.
We spent the first day and a half in Waikiki where Collin's conference was and then headed to Ko Olina in West Oahu...where I would like to retire/live as soon as possible. Liana and I got massages at the spa, and while those were awesome, the real star was the steam room that they had there with eucalyptus infused steam...it was the best thing ever. We walked out of there feeling moisturized and relaxed. We laid out, went on a snorkeling cruise, went out to eat, went to see the Avengers, nursed some sun burns, became freckle faced, and ate a lot of red vines and pineapple (not together).
It was the best vacation ever.
Day One: Lunges with zombie arms at the Waikiki Shore
This happened
That's my boyfriend.
Yep.
Super Moon
SNORKEL CRUISE
I get serious anxiety when I am in large bodies of water so snorkeling usually freaks me out
a considerable amount, but we were in Hawaii so how could I not, right?
Yep.
Let's play guess which leg is Scott's
We all do weird things while on vacation and it is all ok.
More strangers asked us if we were twins this trip than ever before.
A guy at Target said, "Are you fraternal, or what?"
Snorkel instruction.
happy boys
Liana and I wore life jackets while we were in there...I am not ashamed.
Ko Olina
ROOTS
View at breakfast
Liana got some crazy Japanese breakfast thing with seaweed whereas I...
got the second best eggs benedict I have ever had.
Instead of canadian bacon they had a crabcake.
HOTDOG, it was good.
We went up to the North Shore one day
This was my first shave ice with the magic of condensed milk on top.
Who thought to do that? I will kiss them.
The boys jumped off the rock at Waimea Bay.
The man flipping is not Scott or Collin.
Making breakfast
The doors to the terrace opened all the way and it was the greatest thing ever.
I will have that in my home someday...somewhere.
We drank diet coke and mountain dew out of fancy glasses.
It was only right.
We went to the temple in Laie
Scott was being all cute (what!?) and brought me a flower that matched my dress.
Fun fact: I did not brush my hair once while we were there.
Yep, I just showered and scrunched it up.
It was awesome.
delight.
We went to the Polynesian Culture Center for a Luau.
Of course.
Food - eh.
Show - AWESOME.
This was the fire throwing/dancer guy. He was very sweaty so I told him I would not touch him.
Liana braved it.
On Liana and Collin's last day we went to Pearl Harbor
and we did the AUDIO TOUR
which was surprisingly awesome, it's like walking through
a History Channel documentary.
Liana and Collin left on Friday night, it was super sad.
Scott and I spent the next day and a half in the sun, getting more shaved ice,
and watching a sunset.
Now we are back and our internal clocks are way out of whack. I was welcomed home by
a lovely stomach virus yesterday that reared its ugly head while I was at work.
And we are already trying to figure out when we can go back.
How does that place even exist?
